The agent comments on the impact of revenue sharing in college sports

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – A recent announcement from the University of Tennessee surprised fans across the college sports world. Starting in 2025, there will be a 10% increase in the “talent fee” on tickets for all sports to give athletes more money.

The University of Tennessee’s athletic director said the new 10% fee on all sports tickets is part of a revenue-sharing plan that schools could begin implementing next fall.

That means it may not be long before schools like Alabama and Auburn charge an additional fee for paying players.

Sports agent Tyler Mann said he sees this as the new normal for college athletics.

“College football is a multibillion-dollar industry and is extremely competitive,” he said. “With the new rules around NIL, there is not much governance. To put it bluntly, it’s like the Wild West, and universities and teams are doing everything they can to attract the best talent because that generates huge revenue.”

He said he sees the change as a positive for the sport overall.

“Fans pay for tickets to see them play,” he said. “I think it’s fine that they share in the sales or get paid for it, but I think that going forward there need to be some parameters to keep everyone under control a little bit. It’s nothing to be afraid of. It’s an evolving process and will be really interesting to watch.”

Mann also believes high school athletes could soon be affected by revenue sharing. He said it’s important for high school athletes to start thinking about what’s next sooner than usual.
