A Colorado man accused of poisoning his wife’s protein shakes and killing her is accused of trying to recruit “attractive women” to give false testimony at his trial, court documents say NBC affiliate KUSA in Denver.

James Craig, a dentist accused of killing his wife in 2023, allegedly tried to get one of his former inmates to recruit women who claimed Craig’s wife had found out about an affair and wanted to use her to to frame him for a crime to KUSA, which obtained the court records through its partner The Denver Gazette.

The plan was written down in full in a letter that investigators say Craig sent to the mother of a former inmate. Instead, the letter was returned to the prison due to an incorrect address, according to KUSA.

In the letter, Craig also detailed code names that his former inmate would use to indicate whether he had found anyone willing to lie on the witness stand at Craig’s murder trial. According to KUSA, Craig instructed the man to say “Harry Potter” when he found one woman and “Captain America” when he found two women.

According to court documents, Craig offered the former inmate free dental care for his mother in exchange for help and offered $5,000 to women willing to support his story.

“He said, ‘We’re a family now. The family takes care of each other. This dental treatment can cost $30 to $60,000,’ and he would help them and take care of it.” [the mother]” said the transcripts, according to KUSA.

Officials say this was the second time Craig was caught trying to get one of his former inmates to help him with his case. Another inmate previously told police that Craig tried to have him post letters in his house that appeared to have been written by his wife and said she was suicidal.

According to KUSA, Craig also offered this inmate free dental care in exchange for his help.

Craig’s murder trial is scheduled to begin in November.
