Harmonic Security Secures $17.5M Series A Funding Round to Improve Zero-Touch Data Protection » World Business Outlook

Harmonic Security recently announced that it has secured $17.5 million in Series A funding to bring its unique “zero-touch data protection” capabilities to enterprises. Total funding has now reached more than $26 million since the company was founded in October last year, with the number of enterprise customers already in double digits.

According to industry sources, Harmonic Security has developed a completely new approach to data protection using pre-trained, specialized language models. The Series A round is backed by Next47, a leading venture capital firm that has invested in many prominent cybersecurity companies, including Claroty and Sysdig.

Industry sources also added that it joins Ten Eleven Ventures, which led the $7 million seed round in October 2023.

Alastair Paterson, CEO and co-founder of Harmonic Security, comments: “Over the last 20 years, complex data classification and labeling exercises and noisy rules have caused headaches for security teams, not least a huge burden of meaningless false positives. With the rapid adoption of generative AI, new privacy risks mean that outdated privacy tools are no longer fit for purpose. Harmonic Security is redefining the entire data protection category that GenAI has brought into focus, and we will use the Series A to accelerate the rapid progress we have already made.”

“Next47 is pleased to support Harmonic Security in its mission to reimagine data protection for the modern age,” said TJ Rylander, General Partner at Next47, who will join the company’s Board of Directors. “As we move toward the concept of AI-powered SOC, Harmonic will embrace data protection for the GenAI era.”

Bain Capital CISO Mark Sutton recently joined Harmonic’s board of directors to further this mission: “Traditional data loss prevention (DLP) methods have proven ineffective, leading CISOs to shift their focus to user authentication “While certain types of data can be easily protected, the contextual nature of most sensitive information makes binary “yes or no” controls inadequate and creates more operational friction than value.”

One CISO taking the lead and getting behind Harmonic is Rinki Sethi, CISO of BILL: “Data security is a long overdue disruption. What’s even better is that Harmonic has the team to bring this to life.”

Industry sources also added that Harmonic has developed a completely new approach to data protection by working with dozens of innovative CIOs and CISOs around the world. The company has trained its own privacy language models based on unique datasets of highly realistic sensitive materials. This breakthrough enables Harmonic to accurately detect all types of sensitive data in milliseconds. The extreme accuracy and speed of this approach means it can move end users toward secure best practices without overwhelming security teams.

Industry sources added that Harmonic’s close relationship with CISOs has enabled rapid implementation following the July 2024 launch of its data protection product, which is already actively used by thousands of employees. As a result, it attracted significant attention in 2024, including being named an RSA Innovation Sandbox finalist.
