Latest Bayesian superyacht sinks: Mike Lynch’s cause of death revealed at inquest as daughter is examined

The captain of the neighboring ship describes the moment Bayesian sank

British tech tycoon Mike Lynch’s preliminary cause of death has been given as drowning, while the results of the autopsy on his 18-year-old daughter Hannah are still “under investigation”.

The investigation into the death of Dr. Lynch, his daughter and two friends opened this morning, more than a month after her tragic death when the tycoon’s superyacht Bayesian sank on August 19.

In a brief hearing, Suffolk Coroner’s Court heard that the causes of death of Morgan Stanley International bank chairman Jonathan Bloomer, 70, and his 71-year-old wife Judy Bloomer were also still under investigation.

The inquest has been adjourned until April 15 to provide further information.

They were among seven people who died in the storm off the coast of the Italian island. 15 other crew members and guests were rescued.

A photo of the Bayesian taken by a passenger on board a neighboring yacht 14 minutes before the disaster has been revealed in a new ITV documentary.

Apparently a door in the superyacht’s hull was closed, contradicting claims that the crew had accidentally left it open, causing water to flood the 56-metre-long yacht.

Five of the victims were found together in a sunken yacht

In a new ITV documentary, a rescue diver involved in the search for Mike Lynch and his guests said five of the adults were found together.

A rescuer said: “The victims were found on the lower level. We found the people in a room. Considering the time of the fall, they all slept in their rooms.

“The fact that they were found together means – it’s just a theory – that they came together to escape or to comfort each other.”

Hannah Lynch’s death remains under investigation

An inquest opened at Suffolk Coroners Court into the death of 18-year-old Hannah Lynch heard her cause of death remains “under investigation”.

Detective Inspector Mike Brown, of Suffolk Police, told the court: “In the early hours of August 19, between 4.15am and 4.45am, the yacht Bayesian, crewed by 22 people, including 10 crew and 12 guests, was sailing under the British flag , The ship was 0.8 miles nautical miles from the coast of Porticello and sank quickly for reasons that are still unclear.

“Of all the inmates, 15 were rescued and seven were reported missing. The search began in the following hours and continued non-stop for the following days.”

He added that the talented student from west London was spotted and identified by a crew member of the Bayesian on August 23. Italian authorities have conducted an autopsy and investigated the preliminary cause of death.

Her full inquest is due to take place on April 15.

Diver reveals Hannah Lynch was hardest to find on a sunken yacht

A rescue diver involved in the search for the Bayesian victims said it took longer to find Mike Lynch’s daughter Hannah because of her “petite size.”

In a new ITV documentary, he said: “As the girl was small and petite, her body was hidden behind mattresses so it took longer to find her.”

He added that the 18-year-old’s discovery was particularly devastating for those involved given her young age.

“When you have a child or a young person recovering, it affects you more than an adult,” he said.
