Sports Daily Digest October 4, 2024 – WRBI Radio

In boys tennis Thursday at East Central, the host Trojans defeated Oldenburg Academy 4-1 and Batesville defeated Lawrenceburg 5-0. The Trojans and Bulldogs meet tomorrow for the section championship.

Batesville wins the girls race at the Greensburg Cross Country Invitational. The Bulldogs scored a perfect 15 points. The host Pirates finished third with 114 points and East Central rounded out the top five with 127 points. Kaylynn Bedel of BHS was the race champion with a time of 20:22. The Batesville boys placed second behind Lawrence North. The Bulldogs scored 82 points and Greensburg finished third with 99 points. Batesville senior Jake Chapman crossed the finish line in 16:17 to take the championship crown.

In boys soccer, Oldenburg Academy lost 4-2 to Richmond. Zach Hoff and Henry Wanstrath scored the Twisters’ goals. OA finished the regular season at 9-5-2.

In varsity volleyball, South Decatur won in three sets against Rising Sun. The scores were 25-21, 25-14, 25-19 in favor of the Cougars.

We wish East Central’s Batesville Girls Golf and Rowan Pies the best of luck as they compete in the IHSAA state finals today and tomorrow at Prairie View Golf Course in Carmel.

It’s week seven of the high school football season. Greensburg and Batesville renew their gridiron rivalry tonight at the Dawg Pound. Coverage begins at 6:45 a.m. on 103.9 FM and the WRBI app. Terrance Arney and Tom Snape will take the call.

East Central travels to Connersville. Rob Moorhead and Patrick Kolks will announce it with pregame coverage starting at 6:40 a.m. on the WRBI app.

Elsewhere, Milan hosts Providence…Franklin County plays South Dearborn at home…North Decatur travels to North Daviess…South Decatur faces Switzerland County…and Rushville heads to Lawrenceburg.

In the Major League Baseball playoffs, the New York Mets doubled the Brewers 4-2 in Milwaukee to win the third and deciding game of their National League Wild Card Series. The Mets advance to the NL Division Series, where they face the Phillies. Game one of the best-of-five series takes place tomorrow in Philadelphia.

The Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark is the near-unanimous WNBA rookie of the year. Clark received 66 of 67 votes. The only vote not for the Fever guard went to Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese.
