Brighton Township supported the closure of group homes and gave residents days to find a new home

Residents of Cambridge Pointe, an assisted living community in Brighton Township, have been told they only have a few days left before the facility closes permanently.

“This is what we got today: Your facility is closing your rights as a resident,” Kim Decouto said as she showed the Channel 11 news team the note the facility left for her mother.

Kim Decouto said her 93-year-old mother, Clara, has lived in Cambridge Pointe for two years; But after receiving a call, she now has days to find a new home.

“It’s twelve o’clock today and she [called and] “She said the closure was effective immediately and she had to be out within two weeks,” Decouto recalled.

Management gave us this statement on Thursday when we asked the reason for the sudden closure.

“As the external management team for Cambridge Retirement Communities, we deeply regret the owner’s decision to close Cambridge Retirement Living Communities. Our primary focus is supporting our dedicated staff and assisting our residents in finding a new home. We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for all affected individuals and are working with healthcare professionals and families to maintain continuity of care. We appreciate the community’s support during this challenging time and remain committed to the well-being of our residents and staff,” – Priority Life Care.

“We were completely taken by surprise,” she explained.

Decouto began making frantic calls to other facilities. Luckily, she made an appointment, but says her mother probably won’t have a single room at the new price.

“It still takes about five minutes and costs a little more, but it’s an option,” she said.

Decouto worries that other residents may not have family members to help them navigate the move.

“Everyone here who has been here forever, there are people here who have no one, this was their life and this was their family,” Decouto said.

The Department of Aging will be on site to assist residents with relocation efforts. Unfortunately, regional location is not always guaranteed.
