Gas Leak Stopped, Residents Can Return Home in Montour Falls

UPDATE: As of 4:20 p.m. Thursday, residents who were evacuated from the village of Montour Falls due to a gas line rupture can now return to their homes at their leisure, the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office said.

NYSEG reported to the sheriff’s office that about 400 customers in the village will be without gas service for the time being.

MONTOUR FALLS, N.Y. (WETM) – Evacuations were ordered for the village of Montour Falls Thursday after the sheriff’s office confirmed a gas line was damaged.

In a Facebook message on Thursday, Oct. 3, the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office said evacuations are underway in Montour Falls due to a gas line being damaged.

The sheriff’s office said the entire village was being evacuated and roads were closed. Deputies said people could leave the village but they would not allow anyone to enter the village until the situation was resolved.

The Schuyler County judge is expected to resign while he is under investigation for attending a Jan. 6 rally

511NY reports that the line was down on Route 14 near Clawson Boulevard.

The situation is expected to last two to three hours, the sheriff’s office said. 18 News will update this situation as more information becomes available.
