Toper Taylor is aiming to enter local politics

Toper Taylor says he wants to give back to the community by serving on the council

INDIAN WELLS – All candidates in the Nov. 5 City Council election had the opportunity to respond to a candidate questionnaire distributed in the Uken Report. Below are Toper Taylor’s answers.

UR: Age and profession:

Toper Taylor: I’m 60 years old and own a strategic consulting firm called Media Disrupted that advises early-stage growth companies on scaling.

UR: Who or what motivated you to run for city council?

Toper Taylor: I recently completed my doctorate in public policy at the University of Southern California and want to apply best practices in governance, governance and transparency to our city. I believe in giving back to the community and ensuring a healthy democracy.

UR: How long have you lived in Indian Wells full time?

Toper Taylor: My wife and I have lived in Indian Wells for three years; My family has lived in the state of California for five generations.

UR: What is your top priority for the city?

Toper Taylor: Provide financial responsibility, responsible budgeting and forecasting, and leverage decades of experience leading global businesses in high-risk negotiations coming to our city.

UR: What makes you a better candidate than your opponents?

Toper Taylor: Each candidate brings their life experiences to the city council. I bring decades of strong business practices and degrees in communications, healthcare management and public policy.

UR: Do you see yourself as a team player or as an individual fighting for your opinion? Why?

Toper Taylor: I am a listener who can transform complexity into simplicity, a strategic thinker, and an insatiable curiosity who always puts the well-being of our community first. When I put the well-being of our city first, I may act as a team player and sometimes as an individual.

UR: How do you deal with conflict? Give us an example.

Toper Taylor: It is important to approach a conflict by attempting to get to the heart of the dispute, ensuring that both parties are properly and accurately educated and informed, and then finding a solution that works best for the city. As a committee member of the Indian Wells Golf Committee, we are tasked with protecting and maintaining our city’s greatest asset: its two golf courses. We are currently discussing the cost and timing of redesigning the golf course. We need to find a balance between investing in an asset and overspending and over-planning the investment.

UR: What is the biggest issue facing Indian Wells?

Toper Taylor: Securing land and developing affordable housing to meet government requirements. All of this is underway.
