Jax Taylor is handing over sole custody of son Cruz to Brittany Cartwright as part of their impending divorce

Jax Taylor has given Brittany Cartwright full custody of their 3-year-old son Cruz amid their ongoing divorce. According to legal documents obtained by Us Weekly on Wednesday, October 2, Taylor represented herself in court in response to the reality star’s plea in August. In his response, he also requested that his and Cartwright’s shared LA home be split up at a later date.

A representative for the estranged couple issued a statement on the file on Wednesday, telling the aforementioned publication that the duo had long since resolved all matters regarding custody of their son.

They would continue to work together privately in Cruz’s best interests, the statement said. At the same time, it was also detailed that any errors that Taylor may have made in his documents due to his lack of expertise in legal matters will be corrected immediately.

Cartwright filed for divorce from Taylor, citing irreconcilable differences. She listed January 24 as the date of their separation and requested sole custody of their son Cruz.

The former flames began dating in 2015 and married at a castle in Kentucky in 2019. Their relationship was partially documented on Vanderpump Rules before they left the Bravo show after season eight in 2020. Taylor and Cartwright announced their split just weeks before their reality TV comeback through VPR spinoff The Valley, leading fans to question the authenticity of their relationship struggles.

While Cartwright confirmed that she and Taylor were indeed considering going their separate ways, she assured fans on the February episode of the duo’s When Reality Hits podcast that their breakup wasn’t a publicity stunt to promote The Valley advertise.

Cameras are currently rolling on the Bravo series’ second season, and Cartwright recently announced that viewers will learn more about her divorce from Taylor in the next installment.

“You’ll see how it all unfolds once the show airs, but I will say this: This season was the most difficult season I’ve ever had to film,” she said during an August episode of her podcast in which she also said Her decision to file for divorce was not an impulsive decision.

According to Cartwright, it took her many years to gather enough strength and courage to do what was best for herself, get out of a “toxic relationship” and finally realize her worth. She subsequently described her son as her strength and expressed that she believes he deserves a healthy and happy mother. She also noted that she and Taylor will be doing the podcast separately going forward.

Meanwhile, Taylor said during a September episode of the audio show that he and Cartwright’s split was the right decision for their family, pointing out that he will always love and care for his soon-to-be ex-wife. “I know I am a great father and I know I will be an excellent ex-husband.”

Additionally, Taylor completed 30 days of mental health treatment after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
