Whitecaps vs. Sounders, streaming: kickoff, lineups, updates

LINEUPS: The Sounders field virtually the same lineup as they did in Saturday’s win over the Houston Dynamo, with the exception of Georgi Minoungou in Pedro de la Vega’s spot. The Whitecaps, meanwhile, made three changes from the weekend. Also missing are designated players Stuart Armstrong and Ryan Gauld as well as Canadian international Ali Ahmed.

Rarely has there been more at stake in a game between the Seattle Sounders and the Vancouver Whitecaps than tonight. Aside from being a crucial game in the Cascadia Cup, both rivals are fighting for home field advantage heading into the first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs. The two teams are only separated by three points in the Western Conference standings.

As things stand, the Whitecaps can win the Cascadia Cup with a win. The Sounders, who have one Cascadia Cup game left, must win this game to keep their regional cup hopes alive.

Both teams have completed their weekend games and will take a short break. The Sounders beat Houston Dynamo 1-0, while the Whitecaps drew 1-1 with the Portland Timbers.

However, the Whitecaps crowd is a little more intense as this is their sixth game in 18 days. They are 1-1-3 in their last five games, including a shootout win over Toronto FC in the Canadian Championship. The Sounders, meanwhile, have only played three games at the same time.

  • The Whitecaps are currently atop the Cascadia Cup standings with 8 points, the Timbers are second with 7 and the Sounders are third with 4 points.
  • This is the 153rd time the Sounders and Whitecaps have faced off in a competition, more than any two U.S.- or Canada-based teams. The Sounders lead the all-time series 73-53-27.
  • The Sounders have a record of 8-5-6 in Vancouver during the MLS era.
  • The Whitecaps hold a 1-0-1 advantage in their previous two meetings this year, both in Seattle.
