Beamer vs. Harbaugh Now it’s Pry vs. Taylor

Once ACC royalty, the Virginia Tech Hokies have fallen victim to a former life. That’s the reality for the Hokies, who travel west to face the Stanford Cardinal. Thirteen years ago, Tech was in a strong position to beat a really good Stanford Cardinal team. They got “sucked” on national television and Jimmy Harbaugh began a new career.

The Hokies struggled in transition, ultimately falling short to Justin Fuente, and Stanford didn’t do much better. The Hokies play Stanford on Saturday. These are two once proud entities that will no longer be of much importance across the country. Now it’s Brent Pry vs. Troy Taylor in 2024.

“This is a damn shame. Both schools had their sights set on something bad. Well, an afterthought.”

Roy Hatfield

In this Discover Orange Bowl, both teams were on the rise. Stanford was red hot, the technology was still relevant. Tech routinely put together 10-win seasons. Harbaugh has escaped his Cardinals days while VT is mired in a coaching misfire and another rebuild. The Hokies have a strong base, but Stanford is no chopped liver. Let’s take a look at notable graduates. Let’s look at the foundation. Stanford wins this battle every day.

If the Hokies want to return to greatness, the Hokies need to make a statement on Saturday. Let’s just hope the Hokies play with the same passion they had on Saturday. If not, we’ll salute another young coach from California who showed Tech how to play the game. This is the most important game on Tech’s schedule. It has to be 1-0 until it is no longer the case.
