Seeing Uganda Through Kim's Eyes
A huge part of Triple F Photo Tours is about taking amateur and intermediate photographers on a photo-tour to see all the beauty that Uganda has to offer.
Uganda is called the Pearl of Africa for a reason. No matter where you go it is rich in nature and ecology and my traveler Kim who came from British Columbia with me, kept saying she could not believe how green it was. If you are a Canadian you know how green British Columbia is so then you can imagine her surprise and pleasure as we travelled through the country.
One of our excursions took us to Semiliki National Park near Fort Portal,Uganda. Having rained the night before it was a muddy walk through the forest to the hot springs of Semiliki. We walked along the forest floor under the canopy of trees as we could hear and sometimes see the various monkeys in the trees above us.
Semiliki is made up of the male hot springs on one end and the female hot springs on the other side of the forest. Once you come through the forest, you enter into the male hot springs where there is a huge pool of bubbling water and you can smell the sulphur. You need to tread carefully to avoid getting burned. There sits a hut just off to the side, where legend speaks of the hunter from long ago that disappeared on one of his travels to the springs, hence why it is called the male hot springs. His female counterpart disappeared while looking for him and so they named it after her. We spent some time at the male hot springs before making our way to the female hot springs.
Our guide Harriet carried eggs with her and Kim kept asking the reason but Harriet knows how to keep a secret. When we got to the female hot springs, I stood back as Harriet took Kim to see the female hot spring and then cook eggs in the water. Due to the deep temperature at the earth’s core, the eggs will cook in less than two minutes. Many locals come to have picnic’s at the site and it’s a huge draw for school trips as you can imagine.
