Construction Everywhere You Look In Uganda
Everywhere we drove in Uganda, we came upon construction. What is so great about that when we live in North America and face that literally all summer? Well in a country as poor as Uganda it is quite astounding as the roads have been pot-holed forever.
Back when we lived in Uganda the roads were paved and there was abundant electricity - however after the expulsion of the Indians, the electrical power grid had rampant outages and the roads went un-repaired.
But now, just like many other poor nations in the world, the Chinese have come and started building the roads. So now Uganda has paved roads in many areas and highways to offset the terrible traffic between Kampala and Entebbe, where the airport is located. Traffic while still a nightmare, moves easier and you have less bumpy roads to travel by when moving long distances.
What’s not so great is that the government is now on the hook for 35 years to pay these paved roads off - is that a good thing in the end? Time will tell but for this writer I am not so convinced.
Below are photos of the construction, which is ongoing and will probably last for years - and just as these roads have met their fate and need repaving the whole nightmare of construction will start again.
